We were invited to join my friend Millie and her family hiking the Subway in Zions National Park. Last Friday was the big day…yes, it has taken me all week to get thru all the pictures.
How many people can you fit in a Toyota Sienna? 15 if you pack them in real tight! We were planning on squishing the 12 in our group, but ended up with 3 more guys we met in the parking lot.

No one in our group had ever hiked the Subway, so Tyler did his research. He had read every guide book he could get his hands on. He had us well prepared and even made me practice a body repel in our garage the night before the hike. As usual, he had us on the right trail the whole day.
Swimming thru the slot canyon was COLD! Most of the other girls had some kind of wet suit…but I toughed it. I think watching Millie and her sisters scream was so entertaining it took my mind off the temperatures.

Towards the end of the slot there is a waterfall with a cave behind it...we all took turns running thru it.

On a large rock by the river a long snake was warming up in the sun. Tyler was the quickest to get to it…although his sneak approach was foiled by Heath and Jett slipping and splashing behind him in the water. The snake made its best effort to get away from Tyler by whipping around and biting him…but not many reptiles get away from that boy. This picture makes me laugh because the snake just pooped on Andy…and it stunk!
Overall we had a great day and made the 8 miles in 9 hours with a group of 12. Thanks to the Tims girls for such an adventure!
Tyler will be posting the more sceanic photo's soon...so check his blog as well.

I'm so jealous!!!! And hurt that I wasn't invited!!!! It looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I could use some of that out in nature! Good for you guys.
Aahh...I love the subway...one of my favorites. That made me sad to see the pics but happy for you. We really need to come down and do some hiking. Jake's never been and he would love it! Thanks for sharing your quirks...I had a hard time thinking of some too...guess we're just too normal.
I miss Southern Utah. It is so beautiful there. My oldest, Tommy, will be jealous to know Tyler caught a snake. I will definitely be showing him that picture. The boy is obessed with snakes, reptiles, and insects.
Hey Susie-
Millie told me about your blog.

Thanks again!!!
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Will you send us whatever information you have on "The Subway", we (us and Matts entire family) are thinking of taking a summer trip and this looks like it would be a fun time.
P.S We are also looking for a tour guide, someone who has done the hike recently. You know anyone like that...hint, hint
